Call for Papers: Special Issue “Drying of Agricultural Products”

The Journal of Research and Applications in Agricultural Engineering invites submissions to a Special Issue entitled “Drying of Agricultural Products”.

The Special Issue will focus on recent research developments, technological advances, and practical applications related to the drying of agricultural products. It aims to bring together research addressing the technological, physicochemical, nutritional, environmental, and economic aspects of drying processes.

About Guest Editors:
Fouad Bahri is professor of biology at Abdelhamid Ibn Badis University of Mostaganem, Algeria. His research focuses on plant-derived natural substances and their biological and pharmacological properties, including the effects of processing and preservation methods on bioactive compounds.

Youcef Bahri holds a master's degree in fundamental microbiology. He works on the effects of essential oils and medicinal plant extracts on antimicrobial, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antiviral, and anticancer activities. He is currently examine the effect of drying on the transformation of three Polish garlic varieties and one Algerian variety into black garlic.

Background and scope

Drying is one of the key methods used to preserve agricultural products, reduce post-harvest losses, extend shelf life, and maintain product quality. It is particularly important for products such as medicinal and aromatic plants, fruits and vegetables, cereals, and other crops whose quality and properties may be affected by storage and processing conditions.

Recent developments in drying technologies increasingly focus on improving energy efficiency, process control, product quality, and sustainability. The Special Issue welcomes multidisciplinary research addressing both fundamental and applied aspects of agricultural drying.

Topics of interest

Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
• Drying of agricultural products, including medicinal and aromatic plants, fruits and vegetables, cereals, hay, and other crops;
• Drying technologies and methods, including novel, energy-efficient, and sustainable approaches;
• Process parameters and physicochemical properties of agricultural products during and after drying;
• Preparation, preservation, and storage of dried agricultural products;
• Quality, safety, and nutritional value of dried products, including the effects of dehydration on bioactive compounds and other product properties;
• Practical applications and economic aspects of drying processes, including cost-benefit analyses and economic viability at industrial and local scales.
Articles published in this Special Issue will form a thematic collection designed to facilitate the discovery of relevant research by researchers, engineers, and practitioners working in this field.

Manuscripts should be submitted through the journal’s online submission system.

All submissions, including invited manuscripts, will undergo the journal’s standard editorial assessment and double-blind peer-review process. The Editor-in-Chief retains responsibility for the final editorial decision.

The Journal of Research and Applications in Agricultural Engineering is a Diamond Open Access journal. Authors are not charged submission fees or article processing charges (APCs). All articles are published under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0) licence.
